The ‘craze’ for the whole screen format has been in the smartphone sector for some time now. The ‘notch’, the holes, the retractable cameras are examples and proof that the smartphone manufacturers are constantly trying to take the maximum possible advantage of the front area of the smartphone.

Xiaomi, in this intention, has presented a new patent for a device with ‘four sides’ screen. The entire front surface will simply get converted into a screen along with the upper and lower “edges”.

Xiaomi is about to present its first folding smartphone. They already have prepared a prototype on which they are working, like the South Korean giant Samsung, the Chinese brand Huawei, among some others.

Apple is committed to the ‘notch’, Samsung leans towards the front in-screen cameras and now Xiaomi wants four-sided screens, for which it has recently presented this patent that, at this point, we do not know if it will become a reality, or remain as one of the projects of the company.

As Samsung has long been making curved screens on its high-end smartphones. With this, they manage that the side edges are reduced to the half. Thus, we have been enjoying ‘four-sided’ screens for a long time. But Xiaomi wants to go one step further and also want to convert the screen, so that notifications can be displayed on the side panel of the device.

Basically, Xiaomi’s intention, as we see in this patent, the camera will remain completely hidden under the screen. In this way, effectively, Xiaomi could take full advantage of the front area of the smartphone.
